Brand Research & Scoring
Every brand is scored on the PWW Integrity Score v1.0 — a 10-point framework across five categories: Fit & Function, Value Preservation, Transparency, Environmental Stewardship, and Social Responsibility. The full methodology is published on our Integrity Score page.
The Five Categories · 10 Points
v1.0The PWW Integrity Score v1.0 evaluates brands across five categories that together total 10 points. Fit & Function (3.5 pts) reflects whether a garment fits and performs — a garment that is never worn creates little value. Value Preservation (2.5 pts) measures durability, repairability, and resale support. Transparency (1.5 pts), Environmental Stewardship (1.5 pts), and Social Responsibility (1.0 pt) round out the framework.

PWW Integrity Score v1.0. Every scored brand is evaluated against the full five-category framework. Published scores are never recalculated automatically. Brands using synthetic fibers or plastic packaging receive an explicit ⚠️ warning regardless of other scores.
Nudie Jeans review: 100% GOTS organic cotton denim with free lifetime repairs at any store worldwide — the slow fashion gold standard — an 8.5/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Outerknown review: Kelly Slater's Fair Labor certified menswear with regenerative cotton — a perfect PWW integrity score.
Patagonia review: the gold standard of mission-driven outdoor apparel — Fair Trade factories, Worn Wear repairs, profits now fund climate action.
Performance outdoor apparel requires synthetic fibers — recycled polyester and nylon are present. Not a plastic-free brand by category design.
MUD Jeans review: circular denim via MUD ReLoved resale and Jeans for Recycling take-back (Lease A Jeans now closed to new subscriptions), B Corp certified — a 7.8/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Inseam is L32 only. W28 available but needs hemming to 28". Worth it given B Corp + full SEG credentials.
Smartwool review: excellent ZQ-certified merino socks that run small, plus sizing notes and what VF Corporation ownership means for its score — a 7.5/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Sizing runs small. VF Corporation (NYSE: VFC) ownership caps Economic + Governance pillars. Nylon reinforcement means not fully plastic-free.
Harvest & Mill review: 100% USA-grown organic cotton sewn in family-owned Bay Area factories, carbon neutral — a 7.2/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Madewell review: quality denim with Fair Trade factories on select styles, capped by private equity ownership — a 7.2/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
J.Crew Group (PE-owned) caps Economic + Governance pillars. Men's inseam starts at 30". Synthetic fiber blends present.
Bombas socks review: B Corp certified, buy-one-donate-one with 100M+ items donated — how the fit and ethics earn a 7.1/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Performance lines include synthetic fibers (nylon/polyester). Natural fiber lines (merino/cotton) are plastic-free; performance blends are not.
Pact review: GOTS-certified organic cotton basics from Fair Trade USA factories — why we recommend the tees but not the pants (documented inseam inconsistency) — a 6.5/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Sizing inconsistency documented for pants. Recommend for tees/basics only.
Conscious Step review: GOTS organic cotton socks tied to specific causes, made in Fair Trade factories — a 6.2/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Warp + Weft review: size-inclusive sustainable denim under $100 with a genuinely proportioned petite line (00P–14P) — no shorter-inseam line yet — a 6.2/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Petite line is women's only. Not a match for shoppers needing a 28" inseam. Likely contains synthetic stretch fibers.
BRANWYN review: seamless ZQ/RWS certified merino performance innerwear with honest tradeoffs and strong consumer guarantees — a provisional 5.9/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Provisional score. No published factory list; labor standards rest on wool-program requirements rather than independent audit. Limited public ownership/financial disclosure.
Vuori review: performance apparel with recycled materials and stated ethical production — true-to-size joggers and activewear for intentional wardrobes, honestly scored — a 5.9/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Performance fabrics contain synthetic fibers (polyester/spandex) — microplastic shedding risk per wash. Not a plastic-free brand.
Duer review: performance denim with a published factory list and eco dyes — why missing third-party certifications hold back its score to a 5.7/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Limited fit for shorter inseam shoppers. Men's shortest inseam is 30". Performance blends contain microplastic-shedding synthetic fibers.
Torrid review: sizes 00–6X with proportions scaled for curvy bodies, not up-sized patterns; a strong fit resource for plus-size shoppers — a 5.5/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Fit-only recommendation: Torrid is featured for its specialized plus-size proportions and sizing. Its ethics, sustainability, supply-chain, and fiber information remain unverified.
Ethical basics brand with eco-friendly materials. Good for t-shirts and casual apparel. No short inseam focus. Some recycled poly lines still shed microplastics. Economic and Governance pillars unverified — a 5.2/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Sells tops, bottoms (including jeans, pants, and leggings), dresses, and seasonal outerwear; PWW has not verified shorter-inseam options across their bottoms. Recycled polyester lines still shed microfibers in the wash.
California Cloth Foundry review: US seed-to-garment organic cotton, botanical dyes, Fibershed certified — a 5.0/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Alternative Apparel review: soft, true-to-size basics from an FLA-member brand; what Hanes ownership does to its PWW integrity score — a 4.7/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Owned by Hanes Brands (NASDAQ: HBI). Environmental, Economic + Governance pillars capped. Recycled polyester blends shed microplastics.
Brooklinen review: OEKO-TEX certified long-staple cotton basics and bedding with a real warranty, but no B Corp or give-back model — a 4.6/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Fails all four SEG+G pillars. Independent audits score Quince 16/100 (0 Fair Labor, 0 Transparency). High microplastic risk. PWW does not currently include Quince among its recommended brands.
Quince review: luxury-level materials at low prices — but independent audits score it 16/100 with greenwashing flags — a 4.3/10 on the PWW Integrity Score.
Under 5'10 review: inseams from 24–28" for shorter shoppers, 4.8 stars from 100K+ customers — but zero supply chain transparency.
Fit-only recommendation: Under 5'10 is featured for its specialized proportions and sizing. Its ethics, sustainability, supply-chain, and fiber information remain unverified.

Brand Challenge
We use our scores to invite brands to improve — not just rank them. Each card below shows exactly what a brand would need to do to raise their PWW Integrity Score, and a draft outreach email you can send.
💡 Strategy: A public improvement pathway is less damaging than a silent low score — and brands that improve become editorial success stories.
Duer
Brand ChallengePantsCurrently 5.7/10 — here's what moves them to 7/10:
Your women's line offers 27" — extending this to your men's line would directly serve shorter-inseam shoppers and unlock our top fit recommendation.
You already have the factory transparency and materials story. B Corp would verify it at the governance level and unlock our Economic pillar.
Your factory list is published — great. A Fair Wear Foundation or Fair Trade certification on your production would lock in the Social pillar with third-party verification.
Warp + Weft
Brand ChallengePantsCurrently 6.2/10 — here's what moves them to 9/10:
Your petite line is women-only. A smaller inseam in your men's line would directly unlock the primary fit criteria for our audience.
Your ethics claims are genuine but unverified by a third party. B Corp certification would lock in the Economic and Governance pillars and raise your score to 9/10.
Nudie Jeans and MUD Jeans both publish their full factory lists. Doing the same would increase your governance transparency significantly.
Brooklinen
Brand ChallengeT-Shirts & LoungewearCurrently 4.6/10 — here's what moves them to 8/10:
You have OEKO-TEX and a quality-first ethos. B Corp would elevate Brooklinen from "good ethics" to "verified mission-first" and raise your score to 8/10.
A 1%-for-the-Planet membership or donate-per-order model would unlock the Mission-Driven site value criterion and set you apart from other premium basics brands.
Alternative Apparel
Brand ChallengeT-ShirtsCurrently 4.7/10 — here's what moves them to 8/10:
Your brand-level ethics are strong — the cap comes entirely from Hanes Brands ownership. If Hanes ever divests, or if you're structured with ESG-linked governance, the Economic and Governance pillars unlock automatically.
Your brand story is good. The parent company has no group-level environmental commitment — pushing for SBTi or equivalent at the Hanes level would lift all brands in the portfolio.
Nudie Jeans
Brand ChallengePantsCurrently 8.5/10 — here's what moves them to 10/10:
You're one of the most ethical denim brands in the world — but B Corp would formalize the governance structure and push you to a perfect 9/10.
The repair program is a mission-aligned act — but a formal give-back model (1% for the Planet, climate pledge, etc.) would unlock the Mission-Driven site value criterion.
